USCarrier Telecom is Saving More than Trees
-Advances in Telecommunications Doesn't Stop One Georgia Telecom from Going Green-
ATLANTA, GA – March 31, 2008 – www.uscarrier.com - While the whole world looks at the United States for advances in telecommunications, the Internet, and the next generation of wireless communications, we are far from being a “paperless” society. In fact, despite advances in electronics the average office worker in a typical business still uses about 50 sheets of paper every day, which equates to a staggering 10,000 sheets per year!
To do something about it USCarrier Telecom, a provider of wholesale long-haul fiber optic transport, today announced that in an effort to become more environmentally-friendly, the company has opted for a paperless payroll. The initiative calls for USCarrier to use electronic resources as a cost-effective alternative to payroll documents. As a 10 year old Atlanta-based corporation, USCarrier has witnessed the record number of people moving into the area. While increased population is an indication of economic growth for many corporations, it also adds to the destruction of our forests and much more.
This USC program seeks to reduce the Company's impact on the environment producing better surroundings, a stronger economy and the conservation of natural resources. The real cost of paper and the hidden cost to the environment is driving USCarrier to become one of the leaders in the "green movement" among Georgia telecom companies.
"We know our employees and our customers care about the environment both here in Georgia and throughout the world and this is an effort to serve them better and reduce our impact," said Joaquin Luna, CFO of USC. "We found that we had become paper-dependant and believe it or not, the simple act of printing and providing payroll checks and reports consumes massive amounts of paper. We will continue to look for ways we can be a better corporate citizen."
