USCarrier Telecom and Southern Light Form Interconnect Partnership Telecom Providers Join Forces to Expand Gulf Coast Fiber Footprint
ATLANTA, GA – January 25, 2008 – www.uscarrier.com - USCarrier Telecom today announced its strategic interconnect partnership with Southern Light, LLC, a company headquartered in Mobile, Alabama and recognized among Inc.500’s Fastest Growing Private Companies in 2007. With interconnections in Panama City, Florida; Pensacola, Florida; and Mobile, Alabama, this affiliation has the potential to tie together USCarrier’s 3,400 route-mile high-capacity Southeastern fiber optic network with Southern Light’s 1,800-route mile of fiber optic backbone in four states along the Gulf Coast, as far west as Lafayette, Louisiana.
The first phase was a 2.5G Wave that Southern Light leased from USCarrier between Pensacola and Panama City, Florida. Southern Light extended its fiber network to meet the USCarrier network in Panama City and Pensacola. The second phase, completed in December 2007, is the implementation of a DS3 between Mobile and Montgomery, Alabama. This was the first service lit on an interconnection in Mobile that had been established a year earlier. Both companies are currently providing traditional TDM bandwidth services at speeds between DS1 to OC192 and Ethernet services to 10G, optical and IP services to their customers. This partnership will allow each company to expand these services across both networks.
